BSAE
The BSAE (Brothers Seeking Academic Excellence) is a group of black and latino high school students from Buckingham Browne and Nichols School, located in close proximity to Harvard. The group was created as a result of a study conducted at the school which showed that black and latino young men were leaving the school at a much higher rate than other students as a result of poor academic performance. The group serves as support for black and latino male students and helps them to develop their academic skills in the midst of an environment that has come to have below-average expectations for them.

BMF's collaboration with the BSAE, which began in 2007, was an effort to support this group further. As black men at Harvard, we understand our privileged position, particularly in a society which boasts more young black men in the prison system than in college. Furthermore, many of us understand the position of many of the students at BB&N and thus can help them by giving practical and personal advice. It is our strong belief that the institutionalized collaboration between our two groups will be mutually beneficial and is the building of an important bridge between young black men.
